The spike draws fluid from the solution container into the drip chamber, where it forms approximately 10 drops per mL. The regulating clamp sets the flow rate, the slide clamp stops flow without disturbing the regulating clamp setting, the Luer activated valve provides needleless access along the line, and the male Luer lock adapter connects to the patient's vascular access device.
