What is Atrial Fibrillation?

Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is the most common sustained rhythm abnormality and occurs when rapid, disorganized electrical signals are present in the hearts two upper chambers called the atria, causing them to contract rapidly and irregularly. Blood is pooled in the atria resulting in clots that can break off and go to the brain causing a stroke.
