The MOVO Libby is a folding electric wheelchair built for people who need a power chair that travels. This portable power chair folds without tools, the legrests and anti-tip wheels lift off, and the battery box slides out, so the whole chair can be broken down for a car boot or stored in a closet between trips.

A joystick controller on the armrest handles steering, speed and horn, and it can be mounted on either side. Two brushless motors drive the rear wheels, and an electromagnetic brake holds the chair as soon as the joystick returns to centre. A manual freewheel lever disengages the motors when someone needs to push the chair instead.

The Libby electric wheelchair is designed for adult riders in confined spaces indoors and on firm surfaces outdoors. The chair and its components are not made with natural rubber latex.

Features

  • Folding frame that collapses without tools for car trunk transport or indoor storage
  • Joystick controller with on/off, slow and high speed buttons, battery gauge, speed indicator and horn
  • Joystick and cup holder bracket that mount on either armrest with a thumbscrew and quick release handle
  • Removable battery box with a securement pin, so the battery charges on or off the chair
  • Two charging sockets: one on the battery box and one on the controller
  • Two brushless motors driving solid rear wheels that never need inflating
  • Electromagnetic brake that engages when the joystick is released
  • Manual freewheel lever that lets an attendant push the chair with the motors disengaged
  • Removable legrests with a slider and pin fitting, and a folding footplate
  • Armrests that flip back for side transfers
  • Seat belt, seat cushion and backrest that attach with velcro
  • Removable anti-tip wheels at the rear
  • Storage compartment and cup holder

How It Works

The joystick controls both direction and steering - push forward to drive forward, pull back to reverse, left and right to turn - while the slow and high speed buttons set the ceiling the joystick works within. Releasing the joystick lets it return to centre and the electromagnetic brake engages, so the chair holds position on its own rather than coasting. Because the brake is electromagnetic, the power button is not a stopping control: switching the chair off while it is moving stops it abruptly. When the chair needs to be pushed by hand, the freewheel lever on the motor disengages the gears so the wheels turn freely, and it must be returned to the drive position before the chair is driven again.

Safety Information

  • Charge only with the charger supplied with the chair or a charger approved by MOVO.
  • The anti-tip wheels are part of the chair's stability, not an option. Do not remove them or drive with a damaged anti-tip wheel.
  • Do not modify the chair or add third-party components. The manufacturer treats this as voiding the warranty and affecting conformance.
  • Do not exceed the maximum user weight of 275 lb (125 kg).
  • For one adult rider. The chair carries a rider only, not goods or a second passenger.
  • The chair is not intended for anyone under 16.
  • The rider must be able to operate the joystick and control the chair safely in traffic. Anyone unsure whether this chair suits them should speak with their clinician before buying.
  • Do not use this chair as a seat in a motor vehicle. It has not been built to withstand a vehicle impact.
  • Do not climb or descend a gradient steeper than 6 degrees.
  • Do not drive across a slope or ramp in any direction. Drive straight up and straight down.
  • Do not drive on sand, rough terrain, or wet and slippery surfaces, and avoid heavy traffic, mud, gravel, snow and ice.
  • The anti-tip wheels work on firm ground only. They sink into grass, snow and mud and lose their effect.
  • Switch the joystick off before getting on or off the chair, and transfer only on a stable flat surface.
  • Do not stand on the footplate.
  • Do not put the chair in freewheel on a slope. It can roll away.
  • Do not drive under the influence of alcohol, or on medication that may affect your ability to control the chair.
  • Turn the chair off if unintended movement or brake release occurs near a strong radio transmitter, and keep hand-held transmitters switched off while riding.
  • The user manual carries the full warning list, including all battery, charger and electromagnetic interference warnings. Read it before first use.

Care Instructions

  • Wipe the upholstery, chassis and plastic parts with a dry or damp cloth.
  • Do not use water, oil or chemical solutions, and never spray the chair with water.
  • Keep the battery charged. Charge after each use, including after a partial discharge, and give the battery a regular charge even when the chair is not being used.
  • Do not charge in extreme temperatures, and keep the charger away from heaters and direct sunlight.
  • Check the wheels, motor, folding frame, battery gauge, horn and upholstery regularly, and have the chair inspected by a qualified dealer at least once a year.
