Baxter CLEARLINK IV Solution Set, 76 in, 10 Drops/mL, Luer Activated Valve

Not made with natural rubber latex. Contains DEHP. Fluid path is sterile, nonpyrogenic. Single use only - do not resterilize. Not for power injection. For use by qualified healthcare professionals.

The Baxter CLEARLINK System Solution Set (2C8401s) is a 76 in IV administration set with a CLEARLINK Luer activated valve and a male Luer lock adapter with retractable collar, for use with a vascular access device for the administration of drugs and solutions. It can run by gravity or on the SIGMA Spectrum and other Baxter infusion pumps, with a non-vented spike, a 10 drops/mL (macrodrip) drip chamber, a regulating roller clamp and a slide clamp. The CLEARLINK Luer activated valve is a needleless in-line injection site (Y-site) that connects to standard male Luer adapters such as syringes or secondary sets, for continuous or intermittent fluid administration or fluid withdrawal. Used in hospitals, clinics and long-term care facilities.

Indications

For use with a vascular access device for the administration of drugs and solutions. The CLEARLINK Luer Activated Valve is an in-line injection site, which can be connected to standard male Luer adapters (e.g., syringes or sets) for continuous or intermittent fluid administration or the withdrawal of fluids.

How It Works

The set is made up of: (1) protectors, (2) spike, (3) drip chamber, (4) slide clamp, (5) regulating clamp, (6) Luer activated valve and (7) male Luer adapter. The spike draws fluid from the solution container into the drip chamber, where it forms approximately 10 drops per mL. The regulating clamp sets the flow rate, the slide clamp stops flow without disturbing the regulating clamp setting, the Luer activated valve provides needleless access along the line, and the male Luer lock adapter connects to the patient's vascular access device. When used with a compatible Baxter infusion pump, replace and use the set as directed in the pump labelling.

Directions for Use

Use aseptic technique.

1. Close regulating clamp (5). Insert spike (2) into solution container.
2. Fill drip chamber (3) to fill line. Open regulating clamp (5). Prime set, purge air.
3. Close regulating clamp (5) until roller meets bottom of frame.
4. Attach male Luer adapter (7) to vascular access device using a firm push and twist motion and then engage the Luer lock collar to prevent accidental disconnection. Ensure downstream clamp is open.
5. Swab Luer activated surface with preferred antiseptic prior to first use and before every subsequent connection.
6. Access Luer activated valve (6) by firmly pushing male Luer of connecting device directly against Luer activated surface and rotate until connection is secure.

To properly set flow, always close regulating clamp (5) until roller meets bottom of frame, then reopen to establish flow rate. Repeat procedure if adjusting clamp from fully open position.

Warnings and Cautions

• Do not use if protectors (1) are not in place. Do not place on sterile field.
• Do not allow air to be trapped in set. Puncturing set components may cause air embolism.
• Do not swab Luer activated surface (6) when downstream clamp is closed or valve is recessed. Ineffective swabbing may result. Replace set if valve remains recessed.
• Do not access Luer activated valve with needles or cannula. Attempting such access will render the product damaged; replace immediately.
• Use of Luer lock connection is recommended. If Luer slip connection is used, insert into valve using a firm push and twist motion. Do not leave Luer slip unattended.
• Trace lines before connection. Do not connect any compressed gas device to intravenous injection sites.
• Do not use for power injection.
• Single use only. Do not resterilize.

Notes

• To stop flow without disturbing regulating device (5), close slide clamp (4).
• Flush Luer activated valve (6) after injection to prevent inadvertent mixing of incompatible medications/fluids.
• Flush Luer activated valve after blood infusion. If valve cannot be cleared of blood, replace immediately.
• If intermittently disconnecting set from Luer activated valve, immediately cover male Luer of connecting device with a sterile replacement protector.
• When used with an infusion pump, replace and use per direction in the respective pump labelling. When used in gravity mode, replace according to facility protocol.
• Lengths are approximate.
