The Carex Toilet Seat Riser with Quick-Lock is a raised toilet seat that adds 4" (10.2 cm) of height to an existing toilet, reducing the distance a user has to lower themselves and push back up. That shorter sit-to-stand range makes the bathroom more manageable for people recovering from hip or knee surgery, living with arthritis or reduced leg strength, or anyone who finds a standard toilet height difficult to get up from safely.

The riser sits directly on the toilet bowl and fits both standard round and elongated toilets. A quick-lock tab on the underside secures it to the bowl so the seat does not shift or slide during use. Because it locks to the bowl rather than replacing the existing seat, there is no need to remove your toilet lid and no tools or plumbing work are required.

The seat is contoured with a wide sitting area and a 10" (25.4 cm) opening at its widest point. It lifts off as easily as it goes on, so it can be removed for cleaning, taken along when travelling, or set aside when other members of the household use the bathroom. Maximum user weight is 500 lb (226 kg).

How It Works

Standing up from a toilet requires the user to push their full body weight upward from a deep seated position, which loads the knees and hips at their weakest angle. Every inch of added seat height shortens that range of motion and reduces the effort and joint loading involved. Raising the seat by 4" (10.2 cm) is a common recommendation following hip replacement, where patients are frequently instructed to avoid bending the hip past 90 degrees.

The riser holds its position through a lock tab on the underside that engages against the rim of the bowl. Unlike a riser that simply rests on top, the tab resists the sideways force applied when a user leans or pushes off to one side while standing, which is the point at which an unsecured seat is most likely to shift.

Indications

Designed for people who have difficulty lowering themselves onto or rising from a standard height toilet, including those recovering from surgery, living with arthritis or reduced lower limb strength, or with limited mobility.

Directions for Use

1. Lift the existing toilet seat and lid into the upright position. The existing seat does not need to be removed.
2. Place the riser onto the toilet bowl, centred over the opening.
3. Engage the quick-lock tab on the underside to secure the riser to the bowl.
4. Check that the riser is firmly seated and does not shift before use.

Do not use the riser if it moves, rocks, or does not lock securely to the bowl.
