The DARCO Wound Care Shoe System (WCS) is a wound care and post-operative shoe designed to take pressure off the sole of the foot while the wearer stays mobile. It is intended for use during the treatment of plantar wounds and ulcerations, and after toe and forefoot surgery, under the direction of a healthcare professional.

Each shoe holds a removable four-layer insole. A healthcare professional trims and shapes the layers to the position of the wound, creating a relief area beneath the affected part of the foot. The upper is closed with hook-and-loop straps, so the fit can be opened out to take dressings, bandages or a light cast.

Available in an open-toe version, which leaves the toes and forefoot dressings clear, and a closed-toe version. Both are supplied and worn as a pair, so both feet sit at the same height. Choose your toe style and size from the options above.

How It Works

The insole is built as four stacked layers of different densities. Working from the marked position of the wound, a healthcare professional removes or cuts away material from the upper layers to create a recess directly beneath it. The surrounding layers continue to carry load, so weight is redistributed away from the wound while the wearer walks. Because the layers are separate, the same insole can be adjusted again as the wound changes, and the layers are reassembled and replaced in the shoe after cutting.

Directions for Use

• Measure the length and width of the injured foot, including any bandages or casts, before choosing a size. Use the sizing table below. The US shoe size columns are for reference only.
• The shoes are supplied as a pair and are intended to be worn as a pair.
• The four-layer insoles are supplied fitted inside the shoes. A fitting mark on the side of the sole shows where the ball of the foot should sit.

Safety Information

• Do not modify the insoles yourself. Modifications are to be performed by a medical professional only.
• Do not use this device on open fractures or on ulcerations greater than Wagner grade 3.
• Do not drive a vehicle while wearing this device.
• Use extra caution when walking on any surface while wearing the shoes, and walk more slowly than normal.
• If pain or swelling occurs, discontinue use and consult your medical provider immediately.
• This device is for single-patient use only.

Care Instructions

• Clean the shoes with a damp cloth or a soft brush, and the insoles with a damp cloth or a disinfectant wipe. Allow both to air dry.
• Do not use strong solvents for cleaning, including alcohol.

Sizing

Measure the length and the width of the injured foot with any bandages or casts in place, then compare the measurements to the inside shoe dimensions below. The women's and men's US shoe sizes are given for reference only and should not be used on their own to choose a size. Inside length is measured heel to toe, forefoot width across the ball of the foot, and heel width across the heel.
