Description
The Evolution Wide rollator is a four-wheel walker built on a heavy-duty steel frame, configured here with a forearm platform in place of standard handgrips. The platform lets the user bear weight through the forearms rather than the hands and wrists, which suits people who cannot grip or load a conventional handle. The wide frame also gives extra clearance for users with a broad gait.
The frame uses 1-1/8" cold rolled steel tubing, the same tubing gauge used in mountain bike fabrication, with 1" tubing on the handles and stainless steel or corrosion-plated fasteners throughout. The steel is finished in a scratch resistant powder coat. Plastic components are moulded to withstand temperatures as low as -40 °F (-40 °C).
The seat is a solid plastic base with a removable fitted waterproof cushion, and a large removable wire basket sits below. The Wide configuration carries a maximum user weight of 400 lb (181 kg) and rolls on 8" heavy-duty polyurethane tires. Available in black.
Features
- Forearm platform in place of standard handgrips, for users who cannot bear weight through the hands or wrists
- Heavy-duty steel frame using 1-1/8" (2.9 cm) cold rolled steel tubing, with 1" (2.5 cm) tubing on the handles
- Scratch resistant powder coated finish
- Stainless steel or corrosion-plated fasteners throughout
- Wide frame with 21" (53 cm) seat width, designed to accommodate a broad gait
- Solid plastic seat base with removable fitted waterproof cushion
- Large removable wire basket
- 8" (20 cm) heavy-duty polyurethane tires
- Plastic components rated to withstand temperatures as low as -40 °F (-40 °C)
- Maximum user weight 400 lb (181 kg)
- Available in black
How It Works
A forearm platform changes where the user's weight is carried. On a conventional rollator, load passes through the palms, wrists, and hands on the handgrips. With a forearm platform, the user rests the forearms on the padded surface and the load is distributed along the length of the forearm instead, with the handgrips used for steering and braking rather than for support. This is intended to suit users with limited grip strength, hand or wrist pain, deformity, or reduced upper limb control, where loading the hands is either painful or not possible.
The wide frame configuration increases the distance between the uprights, which is designed to give clearance for users whose feet travel a wider path than the frame of a standard rollator allows.
Indications
Evolution states that the Evolution Series is suited to users with conditions such as Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, arthritis, and stroke-related conditions, and to users requiring a higher weight capacity or accommodation for a wide gait.

Sizing
Evolution Series sizing is set by seat height, seat width, and handle height range. As a general guide, the seat height should allow the user to sit with both feet flat on the floor, and the support surface should sit at a height that keeps the shoulders relaxed and the elbows at roughly a right angle when standing upright. The Wide and Low Wide configurations add seat width and frame width for users with a broader gait or a higher weight requirement. Have a healthcare professional confirm the size and set the support height before use.
