The PharmaSystems Four Prong Finger Splint is a padded aluminum splint that wraps around four sides of the finger and holds it in a fixed position. An adjustable strap sets the fit, so the same splint can be used on different fingers and adjusted as swelling changes.

The aluminum frame is malleable, so it can be shaped before fitting, and the foam lining sits between the metal and the skin. The fold-over design covers the fingertip, which keeps dressings and the nail bed protected as well as limiting movement.

It is intended for finger support where a clinician has advised splinting, including sprains, mallet finger, a bent finger and joint dislocation. Speak to a doctor, physiotherapist or hand therapist before using a splint on any of these, as several need assessment first and some are not suitable for self-splinting.

• Do not fasten the strap tightly enough to restrict circulation. Loosen it if the finger becomes cold, pale, blue, numb or more painful, and seek advice if that does not resolve.
