Drive Medical Nitro Rollator

The Drive Medical Nitro Rollator is a four-wheel rolling walker built on a lightweight aluminum frame. The brake cables run inside the frame rather than along the outside, and large 10" front casters on angled forks are designed to improve the turning radius and give a smoother roll over uneven ground and thresholds. The rollator is intended for both indoor and outdoor use.

The Nitro folds side-to-side using a cross-brace frame. Pulling up on the seat handle collapses the frame, and pushing the handgrips together engages an underseat locking mechanism with an audible click, with a plastic clip holding the rollator closed for transport and storage. The removable zippered storage bag attaches so that it stays in place whether the rollator is open or folded.

Handle height adjusts using a push button on each upright, and the contoured back support adjusts by tool-free thumb screw. The Nitro is available in three heights - hemi, regular, and tall - with a maximum user weight of 300 lb (136 kg) across all three.

How It Works

The brake levers serve two functions. Pulling both levers upward applies the brakes progressively while the rollator is moving, for slowing down. Pressing both levers down while the rollator is stationary engages the parking locks, which hold a bar against the rear wheels to stop them turning; pulling the levers back up releases them. Braking force is adjustable at the brake adjust screw near each rear wheel.

Because the brake cables are routed inside the aluminum frame rather than along the outside, there are no exposed cable runs to catch on furniture or doorframes. Braking performance depends on the condition of the wheels - as the tires wear, braking effectiveness is reduced, which is why the manual calls for regular brake testing and tire replacement when worn.

Indications

This walking aid is suitable for a single user with limited mobility. The Nitro Rollator is intended for indoor and outdoor use.

Contraindications and Warnings

• Do not move the rollator while seated. This is a walking aid only and is not to be used as a transportation device.
• Use only as a walking aid.
• Use only on even and solid surfaces.
• Do not use the seat when the unit is on an incline or on uneven ground.
• Do not exceed the maximum user weight of 300 lb (136 kg).
• Do not overload the storage bag. Use the bag only for transporting objects; maximum load 11 lb (5 kg).
• Do not expose the product to temperatures above 104 °F (40 °C) for an extended period of time, as this can cause parts of the rollator to overheat and burn the user.
• Always lock the brake levers before sitting.
• Before use, make sure the rollator is fully opened, the seat is down, and the folding bar under the seat is locked in the down position.
• Make sure both knobs are fully tightened and set at equal heights. Test the rollator for stability before applying full weight to the handgrips.
• Test the brake levers before operating the rollator. When the wheels are locked, the lock bar on the rear wheels should prevent the wheels from turning; when released, the wheels should turn freely.
• Regularly check the screws and fasteners and retighten if necessary.
• Replace the tires when significantly worn or damaged. Brake effectiveness is reduced by wheel abrasion.
• Regularly test the brakes.

Care Instructions

• Clean regularly by hand with a damp cloth.
• Do not use aggressive or abrasive detergents.
• Check the screws and fasteners regularly and retighten as needed.
• Replace tires when significantly worn or damaged.

Specifications

Warranty does not cover failure due to misuse or negligence, or normal wear and tear, and does not extend to non-durable components such as rubber accessories, casters, and grips, which are subject to normal wear and require periodic replacement.

Sizing

Nitro sizing is set by handle height range and seat-to-floor height, and is chosen based on user height. As a general guide, the handgrips should sit at wrist height when the user stands upright with arms relaxed at the sides, and the seat height should allow the user to sit with both feet flat on the floor. Have a healthcare professional confirm the size before purchase.
