The BD UltraFlex Self-Adhering Male External Catheter is a sheath-style external catheter used for the drainage of urine in the management of adult male urinary incontinence. It sits over the penis and connects to a drainage bag, and it is designed to be applied by the user or by a caregiver rather than by a clinician, so it can be changed at home as part of a daily routine.

The adhesive is built into the lining of the sheath, so no separate adhesive strip is needed. The catheter is rolled on, unrolled over the penis and then pressed gently into place, leaving a small space between the end of the penis and the cone of the catheter. The adhesive is positioned toward the front of the sheath rather than at the base. A clear sheath lets the skin underneath be seen without taking the catheter off.

The catheter is supplied in five sizes. Sizing is by circumference, and choosing the right size matters for both security and skin comfort, so measure before ordering and check the size on the package before each use. It is a single-use device, changed daily.

Indications

Designed for the management of adult male urinary incontinence.

Contraindications

• Do not use on irritated or compromised skin.

Directions for Use

• Verify the correct size before use.
• Trim pubic hair if necessary.
• Wash the penis with mild soap and warm water and dry thoroughly. Do not use dry skin cream or oil beforehand, as wear time may be reduced.
• Open the package at the perforation and remove the catheter from the plastic insert.
• Apply the catheter, connect it to a drainage bag, and check that the connections are secure before use.
• To remove, empty and disconnect the drainage bag, then roll the catheter forward off the penis. A warm wet compress may be applied to help loosen the adhesive.

• Change the catheter daily. Wear periods longer than 24 hours may increase the risk of complications.
• Remove the catheter if swelling, numbness, discomfort, pain, discolouration or abnormal appearance occurs.
