The Vita 6 by Vitacare is a foam pressure redistribution mattress with a viscoelastic memory foam top layer over a high-density foam base. Memory foam works by allowing the body to sink into the surface, which spreads the load over a larger area of contact rather than concentrating it at the points that carry the most weight.

Reinforced edges around the perimeter are designed to hold their shape when someone sits on the side of the bed, which supports seated transfers and bedside care. The mattress is intended for use in hospitals, long-term care and nursing homes, and at home.

Foam mattresses are suited to people who spend around eight to ten hours in bed each day. They are not designed for people who spend more than twelve hours a day in bed, and will wear out early in that use. If the person using this mattress is in bed for most of the day, speak with an occupational therapist about a surface built for that level of use.
